To create an assignment with a PDF, first select PDF Document Upload for your new assignment.
Next, choose the PDF you would like to upload from your computer.
When you first upload a PDF document, accuracy is not automatically available.
To track accuracy, you'll have to manually toggle the accuracy tracking switch-on the assignment builder (above).
Once you've toggled the accuracy setting on, you'll be taken to a text editor where you can review and edit the full text that Readlee pulled from the PDF, page by page.
Pro Tip: This view will be only the text of the document, without the formatting or visuals from the original PDF. Rest assured, the assignment that students will see will have the original formatting and visuals.
The text that you see is what your student's recording will be compared to in order to determine accuracy and completion. The step of reviewing the text pulled from your PDF is important because our AI can sometimes pull in information like page numbers, footers, footnotes, our out-of-order text.
Here's an example of an uploaded PDF version of To Kill A Mockingbird. You'll notice that Readlee pulled in "PART ONE 1," alongside the book's title, author, and dedication. Unless you expect your students to read these words aloud to Readlee (we recommend clarifying this in your instructions), you'll need to delete these sections from the passage, or your accuracy results will be inaccurate.
Once you have reviewed the text, you can select the rest of your settings and click save and exit.
If you want to see what students will see, you can click "Preview as Student" from the assignment page.
We're constantly improving our algorithms to make this process easier and better, and would welcome any feedback you have along the way!
