When you're ready to create an assignment, you can either start with a text from the Readlee Library or you can upload your own text.
In this article, we'll focus on uploading your own content. For more information on starting with a Readlee Library text, view this support article.
Step 1: Create A New Assignment
- Click 'Assignments' — from the menu on the left of the home screen, click the "+ New Assignment" button underneath Assignments.
- Choose between uploading rich text (copy and paste), uploading a full PDF document (BETA), or an independent reading assignment (BETA)
- Name your reading (the assignment title students will see)
Step 2: Configure Assignment
Now that you've created your assignment, it's time to configure the text and assignment settings.
- Content —
- For Plain Text: Copy and paste your text here.
- For PDF Document Upload: If you've uploaded a PDF, this is where you'll see what our AI has 'read' from the document, and what it will be measuring student accuracy against. Make sure to remove page numbers, page titles, or other information you don't expect students to read in order to ensure best results.
- For Independent Reading: No need to add content as the students will be reading their own texts
- Overview — Here you will add instructions, either in written format or audio recording.
- Data Settings — Here you can choose which data to record from your students readings. Pro tip: The plain text assignment format lets you collect the most data.
- Model Reading - this optional section allows you to record a sample section of the text for students to emulate. Fun fact: modeling a reading is scientifically proven to help your students become better readers.
- Add Questions — you can add optional comprehension questions at the end of the text. This feature allows you to either request a written or oral response from students.
- Once you've completed this, click "Go To Reading" to view your assignment and choose with students to assign it to.
Step 3: Assign to Students
Your assignment is ready to go! The last step is to choose which students receive the assignment.
- Click 'Assign To' in the top right corner to select which classes see the assignment
Pro-Tip: you can manage which individual students see the assignment by clicking 'Manage Students'!
